Huntley plans to fix Woodcreek roads
If you live in Huntley's Woodcreek apartments or townhouses, your cars will soon get some relief.
The Huntley village board has agreed to spend just under $750,000 to resurface streets in the Woodcreek neighborhood.
The resurfacing is part of the village's street improvement program, which repairs streets throughout the village each year on a schedule based on the age and condition of the roads.
The contract for the street work has been awarded to Plote -- the lowest responsible bidder, according to village documents.
Plote's bid, which beat out bids from five other paving companies, was about $360,000 less than the village's estimated cost of about $1.1 million and more than half a million dollars cheaper than the budgeted cost of $1.3 million.
The cost of resurfacing will be covered by motor fuel tax dollars, state money doled out to towns on the basis of population.
The village board appropriated $950,000 in motor fuel tax funds to cover the engineering and construction of the resurfacing project. The village will be able to use any leftover funds.
The streets that will be resurfaced include Woodcreek Drive, Frederick Way and the streets that connect them and branch off of them. Janice Drive, in the Huntley Coves subdivision, and Martin Drive will also be resurfaced.
Work on the streets is scheduled to begin in the spring and be completed sometime in the summer.
Because the project uses state money, it still requires the approval of the Illinois Department of Transportation.
