Chastened Florida gets back on winning track

Maybe Florida coach Billy Donovan will let his players back in their practice facility now.

Marreese Speights scored 18 points, Nick Calathes added 16 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists, and the host Gators snapped a four-game losing streak with a 73-49 victory over San Diego State.

The second-seeded Gators (22-11) made the most of their size advantage inside, hit seven 3-pointers and won for the first time in three weeks. They advanced to play Creighton in the second round Friday.

Ryan Amoroso led the Aztecs (20-13) with 19 points and 7 rebounds. Leading scorer Lorrenzo Wade added 11 points and 7 assists.

Florida lost eight of its previous 11 games and missed the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 10 years. Donovan responded by kicking his players out of the team's $12 million practice facility and banning them from wearing any Florida attire.

Dayton 66, Cleveland St. 57: Brian Roberts scored 21 points to lead host Dayton (22-10) past Cleveland State (21-13).

Va. Tech 94, Morgan St. 62: A.D. Vassallo scored 27 points in 25 minutes as host Virginia Tech (20-13) beat Morgan State (22-11). Marquise Kately led the Bears with 21 points.

UAB 80, Va. C'wealth 77: Reggie Huffman had 21 points, including a game-saving layup with 5.6 seconds left, as UAB (23-10) held off host Virginia Commonwealth (24-8).

Miss. 83, Santa Barbara 68: Dwayne Curtis had 17 points and 16 rebounds as host Mississippi (22-10) beat UC Santa Barbara (22-10), which got 16 points from Chris Warren.

Nebraska 67, Charlotte 48: Ade Dagunduro scored 15 points to lead host Nebraska (20-12), which used tough defense to pull away from Charlotte (20-14).

Bradley 70, Cincinnati 67: Jeremy Crouch scored 20 points to lead host Bradley (18-15) past Cincinnati (13-19) in an opening-round game of the inaugural College Basketball Invitational.
