Two Aurora boys facing burglary charges
Two 13-year-old Aurora boys who were charged with burglarizing a sporting goods store Monday night have been tied to four other burglaries for which they likely will be charged, police said Wednesday.
The youths were arrested by Aurora police at 9:18 p.m. as they walked near Indian Avenue and Kendall Street. The officers were responding to a burglar alarm at the store in the 500 block of North Farnsworth Avenue.
Investigators said it appears the boys entered the building by forcing open a rear door.
Once inside, they took two pairs of gym shoes and two hats valued at almost $200 and then ran away.
They were each ultimately charged with one count of felony burglary and taken to the Kane County Youth Home in St. Charles.
During the investigation, police said they tied the pair to residential burglaries in the 1000 block of Kane Street and two in the 1000 block of Century Lane between Dec. 9 and Jan. 25.
They're also suspected of breaking into an elementary school in the 600 block of Columbia Street on Jan. 26, police said.
After searching their homes, officers recovered items apparently stolen in those incidents and found other evidence that might indicate the boys committed other burglaries.
The four burglaries for which officials expect to file charges resulted in a total loss of about $5,000.
