District to pay contractors
The Huntley Unit District 158 school board has approved a $12,400 payment to Moore Turf Care for the 2006-07 snow removal contract. The local contractor came under fire last year for causing an estimated $24,000 in damage to school grounds while removing snow. The district has since selected a new contractor but is still trying to settle its accounts with Moore Turf Care. "The district is still withholding some payment for various damages that haven't been settled through insurance," board Vice President Tony Quagliano said. Moore Turf Care is owned by David Moore, husband of former board candidate Linda Moore.
Board OKs Internet policy
The Community Unit District 300 school board has approved a policy that will introduce Internet safety instruction into the classroom. The policy allows District 300 schools to implement age-appropriate curriculum for Internet safety in kindergarten through 12th grade. Under the policy, Internet safety instruction is optional for schools, but the district is already working to integrate Internet safety into the curriculum for all grade levels.
