Heart Health Talk: Board-certified cardiologist Geetha Reddy, M.D., will discuss heart disease in women, including atypical symptoms and hormonal changes, during a free talk from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 26. Reddy's presentation is part of Condell Medical Center's new partnership with WomenHeart, a support group dedicated to address the unique concerns of women with heart disease.

The group will meet in the Condell Day Center Solarium, 700 Garfield Ave., Libertyville, located on the hospital's main campus. Future meetings will be held on the last Tuesday of the month.

WomenHeart provides support, information and advocacy to improve cardiac care. The organization promotes early detection, accurate diagnosis and proper treatment in order to achieve optimal quality of life for women with heart disease.

The group will be hosted by Libertyville resident and heart patient Debbie Dunn, a national WomenHeart spokesperson and speaker for the American Heart Association.

February Heart Screenings: In observance of American Heart Month, Condell Medical Center offers special screenings for patients 18 and older to find out if their cardiac health is at risk.

A coronary risk screening assessment is available and includes a blood test with cholesterol, HDL, LDL and triglyceride level results; blood pressure screening; and risk profile. Cost is $25.

The coronary risk screening assessment is also available with an electrocardiogram, or EKG, to evaluate heart rhythm. This package of tests, valued at $392, is being offered for $50.

Fasting 12 hours before the blood test is required. Results will be mailed to patients. No insurance will be billed.

Drop-in Support Group: Condell Medical Center now offers an ongoing drop-in cancer support group that meets at 10 a.m. Wednesdays in the patient lounge on the fourth floor (north unit). This group welcomes patients with all types of cancer and aims to bring inpatients, outpatients and their families together to share the challenges they face and inspire each other to lead full lives. The support group is facilitated by two-time cancer survivor Bill Casale, M.Ed. in counseling, and Deacon Don Wheling, Condell Medical Center's pastoral care chaplain. Breast cancer group: Condell Medical Center offers an ongoing breast cancer support group that is led by Peg Schuetz, a licensed clinical professional counselor, and Maggie David, a registered nurse and breast cancer survivor. The group meets from 1 to 2:30 p.m. every third Friday of the month at Condell's Intergenerational Day Center's solarium in the Allen Conference Center, 700 Garfield Ave., Libertyville.
