Strikers plan to stay in Geneva space
Strikers Fox Valley would remain at its Geneva location for another five years under an agreement reviewed by the Kane County Forest Preserve Commission's executive committee Friday.
The youth soccer club has rented space near the forest preserve's events center on Kirk Road since 2004. Its current agreement expires in 2009.
As part of the agreement, which would expire in 2014, the club will spend more than $200,000 on roof repairs, sign replacements and other improvements.
In addition, their current $55,000 annual license fee would increase to $60,000 in 2010, $65,000 in 2012, and $70,000 in 2014.
The 50,000 square-foot indoor training facility includes a weight training center, student study center equipped with computers, a soccer-viewing balcony with stationary bikes and spinning, yoga and aerobics classes for parents.
The nonprofit club, which incorporated in 1989, offers 40 teams for boys and girls ranging in age from 7 to 18 years old. Nearly 500 kids participate.
The forest preserve commission is expected to sign off on the agreement Feb. 13.
