Folk artist to perform this weekend at ECC

When renowned folk and jazz artist Bonnie Koloc takes the stage today at Elgin Community College, the curtain will be lifted on a new era of entertainment strategy.

A presence on Chicago's music scene for four decades, Koloc's performance is part of the college's recent efforts to bring in national performers.

"We've made a bit of a program switch this year," said Steve DuChrow, ECC's director of performing arts. "In the past, the club featured only regionally based performers."

Along with Koloc, other Arts Center performers including Willy Porter and Old School Freight Train "are really artists at the top of their game," he said.

Concerts are held at the center's 164-seat Second Space Theatre. "It's an extremely intimate atmosphere," Duchrow said. "You're right on top of the performers, close enough to hear them breathe."

Koloc's performances start at 8 p.m. today and Saturday.

Tickets are $20. For an additional $17, guests will be served a three-course dinner prepared by students of ECC's Culinary Arts and Hospitality Center. Call (847) 622-0300.
