Oceanographer to discuss global warming at poles
David Carlson, professor of oceanography at Oregon State University, will give a public lecture at 7 p.m. Thursday at Fermilab's Ramsey Auditorium.
The talk is titled "Exploring the Polar Regions at a Critical Time." This program, aimed at high school students and citizens concerned about the planet's climate, is free of charge.
Carlson is a renowned expert on global warming and the current state of the planet. A panel discussion, part of a global warming summit, will follow his one-hour presentation.
This is an opportunity to find out what scientists have learned about the rate of climate change; what global warming effects you will most likely see in your lifetime; what measures can slow down global warming; what you can do to help slow global warming. Carlson will present data from around the world.
The summit, part of the 2007-2008 celebration of the International Polar Year, is sponsored by the Fermilab education office, the DuPage County Regional Office of Education, the West Suburban Science Supervisors and Fermilab Friends for Science Education.
