Macy's is trying to rewrite history
First, Federated Department stores took away our Marshall Field's and now they're rewriting Chicago history.
The Fall '07/Winter '08 Official Visitor's Guide to the city of Chicago includes these listings on page 30 under Department Stores: Macy's: "Chicago's pre-eminent retailer since 1852. . ."
And Macy's on State Street: "The flagship store on State Street has reigned as the pre-eminent department store in the Midwest for more than 150 years."
By deleting Field's name and inserting Macy's, the write-up misleads tourists and those unfamiliar with Chicago history. And shame on the Chicago Convention and Tourism Bureau for allowing this fib in their official publication.
Let's hope it's been corrected it in the spring/summer '08 edition.
