Spring concert open to area musicians
Metropolis Performing Arts Centre's School of the Performing Arts is giving all musical artists the opportunity to perform at its Second Annual Spring Music Festival starting at noon March 1 at Metropolis, 111 W. Campbell St., Arlington Heights.
Deadline for registration is Feb. 29. Open to all levels of musicians at all ages, the contest is looking for musicians who play piano, guitar, percussion, flute, woodwinds, violin and cello. There is also a category for vocalists.
The presentation can include two to three short pieces, one movement of a sonatina or one three to four minute selection. The total performance cannot exceed four minutes.
After each presentation, the panel of judges -- comprised of professional musicians and artists -- will provide feedback to each artist. Following an hour-long lunch break, every participant will receive special recognition at the awards ceremony, held on the Metropolis main stage, beginning at 2:30 p.m.
During the awards ceremony, the top three artists from each level (beginner, intermediate and advanced) will be announced and perform in a special recital immediately following. The awards ceremony and recital are open to the general public.
Registration fee to enter the competition is $10 per person. Those interested in attending the awards ceremony and recital can purchase tickets for $5. All participants in the Music Festival can attend the ceremony and recital for free. All proceeds from the Spring Music Festival go to the School Of the Performing Arts Scholarship Fund which aides young musicians and artists with tuition for the School.
