Palatine hears update to ash borer plan
Palatine officials unanimously voted Monday to amend the village ordinance regarding the threat of the emerald ash borer. As part of the revisions, the village can now go on to private property to inspect and test any ash tree that appears to be infested. If that's the case, the resident must then remove the tree by law. Officials are working to find solutions to property owners who cannot afford to remove trees. Previously, the ordinance focused only on trees in public areas. Officials say that if they work to identify local contractors to remove such trees, the cost to residents could be lower.
