Principal misses point on cheating
We were very disappointed to read Glenbard West Principal Jane Thorsen' s comments concerning West students who cheated on an honors math final exam. ("Cheaters getting tougher to catch," Jan. 23).
"The biggest issue" is not, as Thorsen stated, "the pressure these kids are under," but rather the students' decision to cheat and their accountability for their choices. Principal Thorsen's lament regarding the high tech tools currently available to students and her suggestion that the issue of class ranking be reexamined relative to cheating in her high school provides yet another excuse for today's teenagers to shirk responsibility for their behavior.
Sadly, Principal Thorsen missed a golden opportunity to remind her students that honesty and integrity are the hallmark of successful adults.
