Judge hikes bond in Aurora forgery case
A woman accused of using a forged Kane County court order to abduct her grandson saw her bond increased to $100,000 Thursday for false statements she made to a judge a day earlier.
Jeanie Ann Andrews, 42, is charged with three forgery offenses, child abduction and obstruction of justice in the swindle and attempted kidnapping Feb. 22 in Aurora.
She was jailed on $15,000 bond and Wednesday asked Judge Philip DiMarzio to release her on her own recognizance to undergo colon polyp surgery.
But it was statements Andrews made at the hearing -- such as not being on probation in Florida when she in fact was -- that led DiMarzio to grant prosecutors' request to increase her bond.
Andrews, who uses several aliases and lists addresses in Florida, Illinois and Indiana, is accused of forging a judge's order denying her daughter custody of her 8-year-old son.
Aurora police say Andrews enlisted their help in gaining custody of the boy and drove out of town before an attorney for the child's family alerted them to the ruse.
Andrews was arrested after police called her and told her to return with the boy. Andrews' daughter has not been accused of any wrongdoing.
Court records indicate Andrews also has been arrested several times in Cook and DuPage counties for offenses such as driving while intoxicated, drug possession and escape.
She is on probation in Florida for an aggravated battery to a police officer conviction and had been granted a pass to attend her daughter's custody hearing last week.
