No stopping the Boilermakers

Purdue students didn't storm the court after the Boilermakers beat Michigan State.

That's because they're no longer surprised when the Boilermakers win big games.

Robbie Hummel scored a career-high 24 points as No. 19 Purdue beat No. 10 Michigan State 60-54 Tuesday night in West Lafayette, Ind.

Just weeks ago, fans flooded the court and lifted Hummel on their shoulders after a win over then-No. 11 Wisconsin. They stayed put this time, something Purdue captain Chris Kramer considered a sign of progress.

"I'm glad they didn't rush the floor," Kramer said. "I feel when they rush the floor, it's like you don't expect to win. We've got to come into every game expecting to win."

E'Twaun Moore scored 12 points and Keaton Grant added 11 for Purdue, which won its 10th straight game to remain alone in first place in the Big Ten. The Boilermakers (20-5, 11-1) have won at least 20 games for the second straight year.

The Boilermakers won at then-No. 10 Wisconsin on Saturday. It's the first time in school history Purdue has beaten top-10 teams in back-to-back games.

"It's a great feeling," said Hummel, who also grabbed 11 rebounds and made 4 of 7 3-pointers. "We've put ourselves in position coming down the stretch in the Big Ten season. It's just a total team effort."

Freshman guard Kalin Lucas scored a career-high 20 points for Michigan State, and Raymar Morgan scored all 12 of his points in the second half for the Spartans (20-4, 8-3).

Michigan State guard Drew Neitzel, who averages 14 points, was held to 6 points and 1 field goal.

Purdue led 56-52 in the final minute before Hummel made a long 2-point jumper as the shot clock wound down to make it 58-52 with 42 seconds to play

Neitzel missed a 3-pointer, and Grant made 2 free throws at the other end to put the game out of reach.

North Carolina 75, Virginia 74: Tyler Hansbrough scored 27 points, including a critical baby hook with 21 seconds to play, and No. 5 North Carolina once again survived a surprising challenge before holding on in a victory over Virginia (11-12, 1-9 ACC).

The Tar Heels (23-2, 8-2), coming off a double overtime victory against Clemson on Sunday, got all they could handle from the Cavaliers, who had lost nine of 10 but played nothing like a team in a hopeless free fall.

Butler 83, Milwaukee 75 (OT): Mike Green scored 10 of his 24 points in overtime and had 13 rebounds and 8 assists despite spraining his right ankle to help No. 9 Butler rally to beat host Milwaukee.

Butler (22-2, 11-2 Horizon League) came in with its highest ranking in school history in the midst of four games in eight days. But the Bulldogs came out flat, trailing by as many as 12 in the first half and 7 in the second before Green took over as Butler took the lead from the start of overtime and didn't relinquish it.

Milwaukee (12-11, 7-6) squandered its big lead after too many turnovers, but Ricky Franklin, who had missed his previous four 3-point attempts, tied the game at 67-67 with 0.8 seconds left the game when he made an off-balance shot with Green's hand in his face.

Indiana St. 76, Bradley 66: Gabe Moore scored 27 points, including a perfect 14 of 14 on free throws, as Indiana State (11-13, 6-8 Missouri Valley) beat visiting Bradley. Andrew Warren led Bradley (14-12, 7-7) with 17.

Marquette 89, Seton Hall 64: Lazar Hayward scored 23 points and grabbed 9 rebounds -- both game-highs -- to lead Marquette (17-6, 7-5 Big East) to an easy win over host Seton Hall (15-10, 5-7). Marquette used an early 15-0 run to take a 21-4 lead.

Women

Connecticut 80, Georgetown 48: Freshman Maya Moore scored 25 points to lead second-ranked Connecticut to a rout of visiting Georgetown (18-6, 8-3). Connecticut kept Georgetown without a basket for almost nine minutes during a 21-0 run in the first half and led 30-8 after Aminata Diop broke the drought.

Oklahoma 68, Texas A&M 55: Courtney Paris scored 20 points and pulled down 11 rebounds, and Jenna Plumley broke out of a shooting slump with four 3-pointers and 18 points as No. 10 Oklahoma (18-4, 8-2 Big 12) beat No. 20 Texas A&M (17-7, 5-5) in Norman, Okla.

It was the 83rd double-double in a row for Paris, and the 88th of her career. No men's or women's player in NCAA history can claim as many double-doubles. Wake Forest's Tim Duncan holds the men's record with 87, and there is no official record on the women's side.
