Seven hospitalized in crash

Seven people hospitalized in a Kane County crash Saturday were all expected to recover from their injuries, police said Monday. A Chicago man was arrested and charged with aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol after causing the five-car accident on Route 72 around 12:15 p.m. Saturday, Kane County Sheriff's police said. Santos Christian Romero-Villagrana, 23, of Chicago, was traveling east on Route 72 in a red Dodge Caravan when he struck two stopped vehicles waiting to turn into a driveway, officials said. Romero-Villagrana was taken to Sherman Hospital; passenger Miguel Nunez, 25, of 1250 Victory, Apt. 7B, Aurora, was flown to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, officials said. Also hospitalized were: Bruno J. Bloede, 19, of Maple Park; Rebakah M. Haberkost of Elgin; Keith J. Roberts, 18, of Maple Park; Stephen E. Mazalewski, 27, of Plano; Miguel Angel Jaime, 23, of Elgin; and Ricardo O. Ruiz, 51, of Carpentersville.

Villagrana was taken to the Kane County Adult Corrections Center and was charged with two counts of aggravated DUI, both felonies. He was also charged with one count of DUI, driving without a valid driver's license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, improper lane usage and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, police said.

The crash is still under investigation, police said.
