Residents will probe Evanston cops
The Evanston Police Department says it is changing the way it investigates itself.
Evanston Police Chief Richard Eddington said his department is working to create an advisory committee of residents to help the department investigate complaints against officers. The group is expected to begin work in April.
Madelyn Ducre of a community group callled the Afrikcana Netrwork for Equality and Fairness applauded the department's move. Ducre said some residents feel they have been wronged by the police, but they do not file complaints or follow up because they are intimidated by the way complaints are currently investigated.
