Downstate man shot, killed

Illinois State Police are taking over the investigation of the fatal shooting of a Belleville man found dead in Brooklyn, Ill.

Brooklyn Police Chief Delbert Marion said 28-year-old Russell Hollis Jr. was shot and killed in his car by an unknown assailant shortly after 5 a.m. Sunday. He was pronounced dead on the scene by the St. Clair County Coroner's office.

Marion said investigators do not know what Hollis was doing in the area or what the motive may have been for his killing.
