Teen may be tried as adult

A Cook County judge in March will hear arguments from prosecutors looking to try a 16-year-old stabbing suspect as an adult.

Prosecutors said they hope to transfer the case of Angel Facio, an Elgin teen charged with attempted murder in the stabbing of a former high school teacher, from juvenile court to adult court.

The hearing is set for March 12. Authorities said Facio, who appeared in juvenile court Tuesday in a polo shirt and jeans, ran up behind Carolyn Gilbert on Jan. 18, threw a coat over her and began stabbing her in the neck and head with a steak knife.

She since has lost vision in one eye. Facio also faces sex charges in Kane County -- one of them a felony serious enough to have him automatically transferred to the adult court system.

Authorities allege he sexually assaulted and molested an 8-year-old girl in August. Facio is being held in Cook County's juvenile detention center in Chicago. His next hearing on the attempted murder charge will be held in Chicago.
