Area teens to take part in 30-Hour Famine
Teens from two DuPage County churches will fast today and Saturday for the 2008 World Vision 30-Hour Famine.
Students will get a real taste of hunger while raising money to help feed and care for children and families living in extreme poverty around the world.
All told, the nationwide goal is to raise $12.5 million this year through 30-Hour Famine to fight hunger.
During the fast, participants go without food (consuming only liquids), learn about world hunger and poverty, and perform service projects in their communities. Teens participate in groups through churches, schools, youth groups and civic organizations.
The fast takes place at noon Friday through 6 p.m. Saturday.
In DuPage County, two churches are participating:
• Christ Church of Oak Brook will have 100 youth fasting. Each teen will have sponsors for the weekend to raise money. The goal is to have every student raise enough money to feed a child for an entire year. The service project involves youth working at a food pantry in the area.
• Glen Ellyn Bible Church has 50 youth participating.
