Daley lieutenant resigns

A top official of Chicago Mayor Richard Daley's administration has stepped down after an investigation determined he was not a resident of the city. The city's inspector general charged that Jeffrey Mina, a $114,000-a-year manager of auditing, resided in Chicago Heights. Law department spokeswoman Jennifer Hoyle said Mina quit, effective Feb. 15, while the inspector general's report was under review and "before any disciplinary action was decided upon." Mina worked in the law department until the unit recently was redeployed to the Office of Compliance. The office was formed last year by Mayor Richard Daley to ensure compliance with local, state and federal laws and regulations.
