Briefs: Not guilty plea in slaying

A factory worker pleaded not guilty Thursday in the death of his ex-girlfriend, who was found stabbed to death in her Aurora apartment. Hezekiah Hamilton, 24, is charged with murder and other offenses in the Oct. 30, 2007, slaying of Brenetta Beck, 25. Police say Beck was stabbed more than 50 times and was discovered slumped in the bathroom, her infant children nearby. Hamilton is jailed and due in court again March 28.

'Elvis' to play Arcada

Elvis impersonator Donny Edwards will perform Saturday at the Arcada Theatre, 105 E. Main St., St. Charles. Help with drug bills

Batavia Retired Senior Volunteer Project Inc. is seeking applicants for its medical assistance program, which provides credits to be used for prescription drugs at Osco Pharmacy in Batavia. The credits are awarded on the basis of need with consideration given to the applicant's income and nonreimbursed payments for prescription drugs. Applicants must be at least 65 and live within the city of Batavia, Batavia Township or the Batavia Park District. An applicant can qualify for the program with an income of up to $24,000. If the applicant has a spouse or lives with one qualified additional resident, the income limit rises to $32,000 and the limit rises to $40,000 if two qualified additional residents live with the applicant.
