Man arrested after opening pot package in Carpentersville
A 27-year-old Chicago man was arrested Monday afternoon in Carpentersville as he opened a next-day-delivery package containing more than 18 pounds of marijuana, police said.
Troy A. Dickson of 1314 N. Mason Ave. was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, according to court records.
United Parcel Service employees became suspicious of a particular package in Chicago and called in a police dog unit. The dog indicated the presence of drugs, police said.
Chicago police obtained an anticipatory search warrant through Cook County.
Police were watching as the package was delivered to 5816 W. Chicago Ave. in Chicago and a man there placed it in a vehicle.
The package was then traced by authorities to North Green Street in Carpentersville.
Carpentersville police executed the anticipatory warrant at 118 N. Green St. at 12:30 p.m. Monday as Dickson was opening the package, which contained 8,164 grams of marijuana and has a street value of $130,624, police said.
"For the Carpentersville Police Department, this amount of marijuana is unusual," Carpentersville police Cmdr. Michael Kilbourne said.
Dickson's bond was set at $60,000, and he was sent to the Kane County jail.
His next court date is scheduled for March 3 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
