A tax is a tax is a tax, no matter what

As a senior citizen living in unincorporated Lake county, I don't use mass transit -- so Gov. Blagojevich and his Democrat groupies did me no big favor by offering free bus rides. Instead, they have now tripled the RTA portion of my sales tax on everything including food and drugs -- which are necessities that no government body should have the right to tax!

Thank you, Rep. Sandy Cole for stepping up to the plate and letting taxpayers know what the "transit reform bill" really is -- another big tax increase to help the state of Chicago solve its transit woes. Where is the "reform" part of this new law? Did this bill get rid of all of the clowns on the RTA board who let this mess happen in the first place? Why hasn't the press gone into more depth on the proposed reforms? Are the alleged reforms going to guarantee that I don't have to help bail out the CTA again? There are lots of unanswered questions out there, folks.

Media sweetheart, Susan Garrett was quick to point out Sandy Cole's typo in a recent newspaper letter, but Garrett and the other proponents of this baloney bill made greater errors by not telling their constituents what this bill really meant to their wallets. A tax is a tax is a tax, no matter how you spin it!

And just because Lake County is getting millions for road improvements doesn't mean we're going to see them any time soon -- by the way, Sen. Garrett, is there anything in that transit bill that holds Lake County officials accountable for how they spend the other half of my tax increase?
