For sale: Bensenville golf course

The Legends of Bensenville nine-hole golf course will be among nine properties Bensenville officials hope to auction to potential developers.

Inland Real Estate Auctions Inc. announced this week that the Oak Brook-based company has been retained by Bensenville to auction at least nine village-owned properties.

Legends, the 50-acre golf course along County Line Road and Grand Avenue, is expected to be the largest of the assets to be sold. The golf course, which is appraised at $22 million, will be set to a minimum bid of $11 million.

"This is really a development initiative," village attorney Joseph Karaganis said. "The bidders are supposed to come in with cash offers on various facilities and make their planned proposals. The purpose is to stimulate economic development in the community."

The properties to be auctioned range in size from less than an acre to more than 50 acres.

The first two auctions will take place April 23 and May 23. Among the properties for sale are 500 County Line Road, 101-103 Main St. in the downtown area, 501 John St., 6 N. Center St., 800 E. Jefferson St., 210 and 228 W. Irving Park Road and 10 W. Brookwood.

Additional properties are expected to be added in the next two weeks.

Several village officials, including Mayor John Geils and Village Manager Jim Johnson, either declined to comment or did not return calls.
