Privatizing Midway Airport in works

The city of Chicago is moving another step closer to privatizing Midway Airport. The city announced Wednesday it was asking operators that want a long-term lease to submit their qualifications. The city says the move follows preliminary agreement from five of the seven airlines operating at the South Side airport on the potential terms of a deal. The city already has leased the Chicago Skyway to a private operator in exchange for almost $2 billion. Any long-term lease of Midway would be awarded in a competitive bidding process. Federal transportation authorities and the Chicago City Council would have to approve the deal.
