Citizens should have right to self defense

I find it very interesting the coincidence of two letters and a news piece side-by-side in the Tuesday, Feb. 19 Fence Post section.

The letter from Philip Huff supporting Illinois citizens' need to have the right to carry a concealed weapon was juxtaposed to a letter asking for stricter control over gun ownership. It appeared to me that the tie-breaker to the impasse created by these two opinions appeared in the section called "Six counties in 60 seconds" which was found immediately adjacent to the Fence Post letters I just referenced.

In the first piece in this section was the article titled "Off-duty cop cleared." It related the story of an off-duty Chicago police officer who was confronted by a gun-wielding assailant while walking on the South side. The officer drew his own (concealed) weapon and fatally shot the offender. As a result, the officer was alive to be cleared of charges as opposed to his family making funeral arrangements.

Don't ALL citizens of Illinois, with proper screening and training, deserve the same opportunity?
