Briefs: Huntley bank hosts tax talk
The Huntley Area Public Library will host a seminar on taxes from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at MidAmerica Bank in Huntley. Norman Wierer from Liberty Tax Service will talk about changes in the tax code, deductions and the earned income credit. You'll have the chance to ask questions at the end of the seminar. St. Edward special auction
St. Edward Central Catholic High School will hold its 19th annual Tidal Wave Auction and Dinner Dance on April 19 at the Stonegate Centre in Hoffman Estates. The theme will be Puttin' on the Ritz. All alumni, family and friends are invited to attend the event, which includes dinner, dancing and live and silent auctions. To donate an item, place an ad in the auction catalog, become a sponsor or attend, call the Tidal Wave Hotline at (847) 741-7535 ext. 123. Proceeds will benefit scholarships, expenses and enhancements to the school.
Be a weather watcher
Weather watchers can get training to become a volunteer weather observer Feb. 25 at the Kane County Extension Office of the University of Illinois, 535 S. Randall Road, St. Charles. The weather-tracking program is being coordinated by the Illinois State Water Survey and the National Weather Service. The training session, set for 7 p.m., is free to attend, but participants should register in advance. Those who go on to become volunteers will need approximately $25 in supplies. Call (815) 397-7714.
