Why are free people so wholly unhappy?

We are proving to the world and to ourselves that we are not a happy people in spite of having the opportunities to be, with protection under the Constitution for every freedom imaginable, and opportunities to be whatever we wish to become.

All of these blessings are unknown in most parts of the world. We are witnessing daily how politicians express themselves in the race for the presidency or any other race. Bitter and afraid is how we live our lives. We are seeing the constant unhappiness of people everywhere in how we treat each other.

The recent shootings at NIU are proof that we are becoming like the terrorists in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, or any other place where human beings dress themselves in belts of dynamite and blow themselves up just to cause damage and death.

The same thing is happening in this country with these suicidal attacks at colleges all over the country.

What are we lacking that would prevent all these negative deeds and help us to be happy? Indeed it is a great opportunity for our psychiatrists to explain this awful situation.
