Maria Pappas cruises to win Cook County treasurer Democratic primary

Maria Pappas romped to victory in Tuesday's Democratic primary and is expected to continue her long career as Cook County treasurer.
With 97 percent of precincts counted, Pappas received 544,656 votes to 117,229 for Peter Gariepy in Tuesday's Democratic primary. No one ran for the office in the Republican primary.
Pappas was elected treasurer in 1998, the last year she had a primary opponent. She's touted accessibility of payment options and translating the treasurer's website into 102 languages.
