Democratic Party loves this country

Myself, a lifelong Democrat and patriotic American who loves his country dearly, finds Roman Golash's letter on Feb. 1 calling "the Democratic Party the party of capitulation" divisive and offensive.

Democrats have a long and proud history of defending this country. Woodrow Wilson, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Harry Truman and John F. Kennedy are presidents that have stood up against our enemies.

Kennedy through brilliant statesmanship and military force avoided nuclear war by having the USSR remove weapons of mass destruction from Cuba, 90 miles from Florida.

Had President Bush attacked Afghanistan (the country that actually trained and hid the Taliban) with the full force of our military instead of diverting forces to Iraq, we very likely would have captured or eliminated Bin Laden by now.

Our history as Democrats is not one of capitulation, but one of democracy, freedom and victory.
