Durbin ignores human nature

I am a proud American who minimizes pain.

I also minimize the tax I owe. My behavior changes when tax rates rise.

I don't know the human who does not share this survival skill. It's human nature.

Cook County ignores human nature. Will shoppers seek out lower sales tax rates available in collar counties?

Come on. The only ones who won't are the ones who can't: Those who lack time or transportation.

Sen. Dick Durbin also ignores human nature.

He wants to reverse the Bush tax cuts. Durbin would shrink every paycheck.

Will we work shorter hours and take less risk when our reward is smaller? Come on.

We all will. Problem is, the boss might just close up shop altogether. With Durbin, my prospects are a smaller paycheck or no paycheck at all.

Dr. Steve Sauerberg is running against Dick Durbin for U.S. Senate. Dr. Sauerberg wants to keep the Bush tax cuts. This is especially important as Americans struggle with higher gas and food prices.

But Dr. Sauerberg wants more than current tax rates.

He wants to change our tax system, so that it encourages work, savings and risk taking. My behavior would change in the other direction.

I'd happily pay more tax if I were getting rich in the process. Just try me!

Human nature is important. Dick Durbin can ignore human nature if he wants to. I don't want a senator who ignores anything important. Dr. Sauerberg has my vote.
