IDOT fixing pothole-plagued stretch of Route 47 in Sugar Grove

Motorists who travel on Route 47 in Sugar Grove will be pleased to know that the Illinois Department of Transportation was on the scene Thursday to fix a pothole-marked stretch just north of Jericho Road.

And IDOT workers will return today.

There had been reports that some drivers are finding the road nearly impassable.

IDOT is responsible because Route 47 is a state road, according to Anthony Speciale, director of public works for Sugar Grove.

"I spoke to IDOT this morning and they will be filling in the potholes," Speciale said. "With the snow, ice, rain and salt, and the cycle of snow and salt again, the potholes will increase. Obviously with the storm, this is the first chance they will have to fix it."

Speciale said the IDOT crew will likely be able to keep at least one lane open to traffic during the repair work.

IDOT on Thursday repaired Route 47 from Jericho to Bypass Route 30. Today, crews will be back on Route 47, fixing potholes from Prairie Street to just north of Route 56, IDOT spokesman Brian Williamsen said Thursday afternoon.
