lleged neo-Nazi cemetery vandal held on $250,000 bond

A Cook County judge has set bond at $250,000 for a 21-year-old neo-Nazi from Poland accused of desecrating a Jewish cemetery with anti-Semitic graffiti.

Mariusz Wdziekonski of suburban Norridge was charged yesterday with one count of institutional vandalism, which is part of the hate crime statute; one count of criminal defacement, and one count of felony criminal damage to property.

Wdziekonski is accused of painting swastikas and slurs on 57 headstones at Westlawn Cemetery in unincorporated Norridge Park Township last month.

Wdziekonski is a Polish immigrant who has been in the United States for four years, and authorities say he must also surrender his passport.
