Gender can't be overriding issue
I am writing in response to Ginger Macuccelli's letter to the Fence Post (Women have duty to support Clinton, Feb. 8).
I read her letter over an hour ago and am still shaking my head.
Ms. Macuccelli seems to think that women should vote for Hillary Clinton because she is a woman and women need to stick together.
Is that really the only qualification one should consider when voting for the president of our country?
I spent a lot of time reading about the different candidates and where they stood on the issues that are important to me. When I could have gone to bed early, I stayed up to watch the debates to lean more about the candidates.
According to Ms. Macuccelli, none of the information I gathered should be a factor in my vote. The only thing that should matter is that I am a woman and Hillary Clinton is a woman.
Can Ms. Macuccelli explain to me how that single-minded kind of thinking will help women in this country?
I am proud to be a woman and proud of the accomplishments women have made in the last 50 years.
I look forward to the day when a woman will sit in the Oval Office.
However, I will not base my vote an a candidate's gender, race, religion or age.
If we really want to make America a more positive place for our daughters and granddaughters, let's each vote for the candidate that we think would be best for the job.
