DNA test leads to arrest in 1989 murder

JOLIET, Ill. -- A DNA test of evidence found at the scene of the 1989 murder of a Joliet woman has led to murder charges against a 37-year-old man.

Terrance Cole was arrested in the Will County Jail and charged Wednesday with two counts of first-degree murder in the death of Ana Sanders.

The woman's body was found by a maintenance worker on the floor of her apartment during a wellness check after she didn't show up for work. The 54-year-old woman had been stabbed several times.

Cole was awaiting trial in a 2005 home invasion case in which he allegedly beat an elderly Joliet couple. DNA samples from a beer can found inside the house linked Cole to the home invasion.

The DNA test of evidence from Sanders' murder scene was made at the request of the woman's daughters.
