Pianist to present jazz recital, workshop

The Northwest Suburban Music Teachers Association will present Tony Caramia, professor of piano at the Eastman School of Music, in a Jazz Piano Recital from 3 to 4:30 p.m. March 2 at Karnes Music Northwest Showroom, 926 W. Dundee Road, Arlington Heights.

Tickets for this multimedia event can be purchased or reserved in advance by calling (847) 215-2262 or e-mailing dolins@msn.com. Tickets may be purchased at the door but limited seating is available.

On March 3, Caramia will conduct a traditional style workshop for piano teachers from 9:30 a.m. to 2:15 p.m., at Karnes. He will present strategies for teaching the Gershwin Preludes, for teaching the jazz idioms for late elementary to late intermediate levels and for using modes to aid expressive playing at any level. The $55 registration fee includes one ticket to the Sunday recital. A lunch option and discounts for early registration, for new association members as well as for full-time students will be available.

The Northwest Suburban Music Teachers Association is a member chapter of the Illinois State Music Teachers Association and the Music Teachers National Association. Its objective is the advancement of musical knowledge and education through monthly programs and workshops, colleague support and activities for students.
