McCain to visit Sugar Grove

Likely Republican presidential nominee John McCain is scheduled to appear in Kane County next week to raise money for congressional candidate Jim Oberweis.

The Arizona senator will appear at an Oberweis fundraising dinner Wednesday at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove. The dairy magnate's campaign team said it hopes to raise $200,000, campaign spokesman Bill Pascoe said.

Tickets cost $1,000 and $2,300 each.

Oberweis will face Democrat Bill Foster in the March 8 special election to fulfill retired U.S. Rep. Dennis Hastert's unexpired term. Hastert, who endorsed Oberweis, backed former GOP presidential contender Mitt Romney before Romney dropped out of the race.

Both Oberweis and Foster, a Geneva scientist and businessman, are millionaires who have financed most of their own campaigns thus far.
