Local heroes to be honored at VFW luncheon

Police officers, firefighters and teachers do some amazing things for the community, and from time to time those they help probably remember to say thanks.

Now, the Judd Kendall VFW Post wants to make sure such local heroes know we all are grateful for what they do.

The Naperville veterans are planning a Kendall Honors Banquet next month that will recognize a police officer and firefighter of the year, as well as educators of the year at the elementary, middle school and high school levels. The Voice of Democracy and Patriot Pen essay winners also will be recognized.

But first, the post wants to hear who community members think are worthy of the honors.

Residents of Naperville, Naperville Unit District 203 and Indian Prairie Unit District 204 can nominate potential honorees. Find nomination forms on the post Web site, napervfw.org, under "Events" and click on "Kendall-Gram."

The honors dinner will be March 8 at the VFW hall, 908 W. Jackson Ave., Naperville. The event will include a social hour and prime rib dinner.

Tickets are $15, and reservations can be made by calling Mike Barbour at (630) 527-0738 or the post at (630) 355-0734.
