Cops searching for suspect in sex assault

OTTAWA -- Police in Ottawa say they have made contact with a fugitive who touched off a manhunt late Friday night at Chicago's Congress Plaza & Convention Center.

But as of last night, detectives from Ottawa were still trying to get Justin Ray Sparlin to turn himself in.

The 28-year-old Sparlin is wanted for predatory criminal sexual assault of a child.

Chicago Police and federal law enforcement officers swarmed the Congress hotel Friday night looking for Sparlin, who had checked in in as a guest Thursday, but Sparlin escaped.

Ottawa Police confirmed Sparlin is a member of the U.S. armed forces, but the U.S. Department of Defense could not immediately confirm which branch he was in.
