Adult Winter Reading Club 2008: "Happy Days Are Here Again," the 2008 Adult Winter Reading Club gives teens and adults the opportunity to read books and vote for their favorite fiction genre. Read more books, cast more votes. Each vote makes the reader eligible for prizes. The program runs through Feb. 24. (R-RS or Mobile Library)

Children's Winter Reading Club: Children preschool through eighth grade are invited to "Read to Succeed." Participating readers will be eligible to win weekly prizes. Those completing the program may also win the grand prize. The Winter Reading Club is cosponsored with the Chicago Wolves hockey team. Registration began Jan. 2 and the reading club runs until Feb. 24. (R-YS or the Mobile Library)

Drop-in Storytime for 2-Year-Olds: Storytime is from 10:45 to 11:15 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, beginning today. Each theme-based program includes stories, fingerplays, music action rhymes, flannel stories or puppets.

Library Board Meeting: The Library Board of Trustees will meet at 4 p.m. today. The public is invited to attend. The meeting will be videotaped.

Drop-in Storytime for 3- to 5-Year-Olds: Storytime is from 2 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays, beginning today. Each theme-based program includes stories, fingerplays, music action rhymes, flannel stories or puppets.

Meet with Congresswoman Schakowsky's Representative: Ann Limjoco from Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky's office will meet with individuals privately to answer questions about immigration, visas, Social Security, Medicare, veterans' benefits and other federal services from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in a third-floor study room. Story Explorers: Stories, crafts and related activities for children in grades 3-5 is from 4 to 5 p.m. Thursdays, Jan. 17 and 31. (R-YS)

"Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat": Families are invited to enjoy American Eagle Productions' musical presentation of "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" at 2 p.m. Sunday. The program is funded by Friends of the Des Plaines Pubic Library. No registration is necessary.

"Winter Wonderland" Children ages 3-6 can sing and dance with Bill Hooper as he entertains them with songs reflecting music and motion, nature and feelings. "Winter Wonderland" will be performed from 3-3:30 p.m. on Jan. 21. No registration is necessary.

Preschool Fair: On Jan. 26, the library will offer a free preschool fair for parents from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Local preschools will be available with information about preschool and childcare programs.

Musical Performance: The Hurricane Saxophone Quartet will perform "From Bach to the Beatles and Beyond" at 2 p.m. Jan. 27.

Art Exhibit -- Des Plaines Art Guild: Rhonda Popko will display mixed media in the third floor magazine reading area throughout January.

Ongoing Book Sale: Friends of the Library sponsor an ongoing book sale on the first floor of the library during regular library hours.

E-mail and Internet Practice Sessions: A librarian will assist with registering for e-mail, using e-mail, basic Internet searching or finding items in the library catalog. Call (847) 376-2841 for dates and times.
