UIC trips Detroit; Loyola falls by 1
Robert Bush and Robert Kreps each scored 17 points to lead Illinois-Chicago past Detroit 75-65 at the UIC Pavilion on Saturday afternoon.
Scott Vandermeer chipped in 13 points and had 10 rebounds for the Flames (10-8, 4-3 Horizon League), while Tori Boyd added 12 and Josh Mayo had 11. Kreps came off the bench to hit 9 of 10 free throws and add 7 assists.
Detroit (4-14, 0-8) led 39-33 at the half, but the Flames surged in the second period, outpacing the Titans 42 points to 26.
Jon Goode dominated for the Titans, scoring a game-high 35 points in 36 minutes. No other Titan was in double digits. Woody Payne had 9 points, while Zach Everingham added 6.
Wright St. 53, Loyola 52: Vaughn Duggins had 14 points, including the winning free throws with 22.1 seconds left, and Wright State edged host Loyola in a Horizon League contest.
Wright State (11-6, 4-4) led 51-45 with three minutes left, but the Ramblers scored the next 7 points to take a 52-51 lead on a fast-break layup off a steal by Tracy Robinson with 58.7 seconds remaining.
Loyola (6-12, 2-6) had a chance to win, but a 3-point try by Justin Cerasoli (team-high 16 points) missed at the buzzer. J.R. Blount had 11 and Robinson 10 for the Ramblers.
