Marion Blaski and Mae Connelly kicked off the new year in triple play canasta by taking first place with a score of 83,610.

Contract bridge

Bob Peterson scored 5,370 points to claim the first win of the new year in contract bridge Jan. 2. Irene Crawford placed second with 5,070. Scoring 4,390, Holly Borkowski took third place. Olivine Groves placed fourth with 4,350. John Papaleo took fifth with 3,990. Harry Leopold was seventh with 3,900. Paul Clark came in eighth with 3,800.

Duplicate bridge

Playing duplicate bridge Jan. 4, Barb White and Arvind Shah took first place for north-south, while Walt Figge and Bob Peterson came in first for east-west. Coming in behind them for north-south were Kay Burda and Arvind Shah, second, Joan Iwinski and Walter Westphal, third, and Gini and Harry Leopold, who tied with Mary Ann Harju and Bill Macomber for fourth place. Invitational bridge

Winning the duplicate bridge invitational sanctioned by the American Contract Bridge League Jan 5 were Jay Kadakia and Ron Schwarz for north-south and Audrey Danocoup and Laurie Hamachek for east-west. Runners-up for north-south were Donnelle Brosseau and John Wells, second; Susan Mackinney and Julie Worden, third; and Joan Isenberg and Bill Macomber, fourth. For east-west, Doris Survant and Edna Williams were second; Janice Apel and Carol Smith, third, and Irene Crawford and Betty Smith, fourth.

Sanctioned by the International Contract Bridge League, the duplicate bridge invitational is held the first and third Saturday of every month. The next game will be Jan. 19 at 12:30 p.m. in the Prairie Lodge multi-purpose room. For more information, call Grace Selby at (847) 515-2621.

Euchre

Sandy Brown started off the new year Jan. 3 winning at euchre with a score of 56 points. Joan Roth took second place with 53. Bill Wiederkehr was third with 51. Karen Klein came in fourth at 50.

Bowling

Standings of the Sun City Bowling League at Brunswick Zone, Algonquin, as of Dec. 19 had the Jazz and 76'ers tied for first place at seven wins and no losses each. Tying for second place at 5-2 were the Warriors, Timberwolves, Grizzlies, Suns, Hawks, Heat, Wizards, Rockets, Trailblazers, Bulls, Celtics, and Mavericks. The Bucks held fourth place at 4-3. In women's individual scoring, Pat Rzeszutko held high game scratch, 203; Ginny Belpedio, high game with handicap, 253; Dollie Crom, high series scratch, 516, and Barbara Alluri, high series with handicap, 667. In men's scoring, Alan Schrader and Arthur Alluri tied of high game scratch, 224. Jim Culotta and John Sala tied for high game with handicap, 260. Schrader also turned in high series scratch, 633, and high series with handicap, 702.
