Name change waiver sought
A transgender woman who wants to change her legal name is asking the Illinois Supreme Court to order Will County's chief judge to waive about $450 in court fees because of her low income. The legal filing by 52-year-old Daunn Turner of Lockport contends Will County Chief Judge Stephen White rejected the request by declaring the name change was something she wanted, not something that she needed. Turner claims White also declared he wouldn't spend the county's money on something like that. Turner said she sought to change her name from "Donald" to reflect her identity. Turner's filing asks the Illinois Supreme Court to order White to either waive the fee or issue a written order explaining his denial.
