Kiwanis learn about physical fitness
The Elgin Golden K Kiwanis will meet at 9 a.m. today at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 357 Division St., Elgin. The program will be by George Wolff, one of the co-owners of Wolff Fitness in Elgin and St. Charles. His topic will be physical fitness. Visitors are welcome. For details, call (847) 741-7176.
Adopt a puppy or kitty Saturday
Anderson Animal Shelter will have puppies, dogs, and cats available for adoption in the Macy's wing from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Spring Hill Mall, 1072 Spring Hill Mall, West Dundee.

Elgin Democrats host annual dinner
The Elgin Township Democrats will host their second annual Eleanor Roosevelt Dinner from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday at the Cascade Manor, 11 Woodview Drive, Elgin.
Invited speakers include state Sen. Michael Noland, Kane County Sheriff Pat Perez and Lt. Gov. Pat Quinn.
The evening will include raffles, cash bar and entertainment.

Join in celebration of arts showcase
The city of Elgin will host an anniversary celebration of Elgin Arts Showcase from 7 to 10 p.m. Thursday at Elgin Art Showcase, eighth floor, 164 Division St., Elgin.
With the theme "Star Light, Stars Bright," residents and guests will be treated to a host of performances by local talent and theater groups. The gallery will feature photography by Marv Causey, sculpture work by Howard Russo and watercolor paintings by Dean Willis.
Elgin Art Showcase is an intimate performance and gallery space in the heart of downtown. It has featured a variety of local group performances including those by the Janus Theatre, Independent Players and Soapbox Theatre among others.
