Lincolnshire Prairie-View School District 103 notes

Kindergarten registration: Lincolnshire-Prairie View District 103 will offer parents the opportunity to register their children for kindergarten for the 2008-2009 school year from 9:15 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 15 at Sprague School. The school is at 2425 Riverwoods Road, Lincolnshire.

Children 5-years-old on or before Sept. 1, 2008, may be registered. Parents or guardians will need to bring the child's original birth certificate or passport -- a photocopy of the birth certificate and/or a hospital certification of birth cannot be accepted -- and proof of residency such as a drivers license or utility bill.

Forms for required medical and dental examinations will be available at registration, and they must be completed and returned one week prior to the first day of the 2008-09 school year.

More information about District 103's full-day kindergarten pilot program and the potential expansion of that program will be presented at a board workshop from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Daniel Wright Junior High School, 1370 Riverwoods Road, Lincolnshire. No advance registrations are required to attend this workshop.

Preschool screening: Lincolnshire-Prairie View District 103 will offer a preschool screening on Feb. 1 for 3- and 4-year-old children for whom there may be concerns regarding gross or fine motor skills, speech and language or conceptual development.

Vision and hearing screenings also will be offered.

Screenings will be offered from 8 to 11 a.m. Feb. 1 at Sprague School, 2425 Riverwoods Road, Lincolnshire.

Those who live in the district and would like to reserve an appointment time can call the district's student services office at (847) 295-4030 by Friday.

Links-to-Learning grants: Teachers at all three schools in Lincolnshire-Prairie View District 103 have been awarded $4,500 worth of Links-to-Learning grants by the district PTO. These grants will provide funding to support innovative activities and to buy equipment and resource materials.

PTO Links-to-Learning grants will provide funding to the following teachers:

• Ruth Wilcox, ELM coordinator at Half Day and Daniel Wright Junior High schools received an award to buy Vernier probes and other technical resources for math and science activities.

• Patty Lathrob, librarian at Half Day School, received an award to buy Turning Point student response assessment technology.

• Cathy Buschardt, technology resource teacher at Half Day, received a grant to purchase 12 digital cameras.

• Molly Pilsen and Nancy Conforti, fourth-grade teachers at Half Day, received money to buy eight microscopes.

• Mary Ann Keil, extended day kindergarten teacher at Sprague School, will purchase 10 Junior 20 Mathlines and teacher guide.
