McCain is no longer a patriot

The Daily Herald editorial endorsing John McCain for the Republican nomination for president tells a one-sided story.

John McCain was an honorable soldier. However, he is no longer the patriot the Herald opinion column makes him out to be.

His campaign finance reform bill denies the common man his First Amendment right to free speech. Under threat of fine and jail time, we can no longer pool our money with like-minded citizens to run ads to support or oppose any political candidate during the crucial last 60 days before elections.

This same bill allows a billionaire like George Soros to spend hundreds of millions of dollars pushing his socialist agenda by supporting the very candidates we oppose, as well as opposing those who support our democracy.

What is even worse is that John McCain is the Republicans' strongest supporter of mass amnesty. Behind closed doors, he joined the likes of Ted Kennedy, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton as the ringleaders who crafted the mass amnesty bill less than one year ago.

Despite his recent denials, he still supports mass amnesty. His mass amnesty bill grants illegal aliens credit for illegal work so they can collect more Social Security. It removes any punishment for those lawbreakers.

It also allows them to sponsor distant relatives, cousins, etc., starting their own migration chains, with estimates of up to 40 million people over the next 20 years. With 12 million illegal sponsoring aunts, uncles, cousins, along with brothers and sisters, 40 million sounds like a low estimate to me.

All political officeholders take an oath to support and defend the U.S. Constitution. Our Constitution, yours and mine. This oath doesn't say they may defend it. It says they will defend it.

This includes our immigration laws. To do otherwise is treason against the United States government and her citizens.

It is time to remove from public office any politician who says otherwise. If we use our vote wisely we can maintain a free America for ourselves and our children.
