No. 6 Roddick upset at Australian Open

MELBOURNE, Australia - Andy Roddick was sharp but Germany's Philipp Kohlschreiber was sharper, refusing to wilt and ousting the sixth-ranked American 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (9), 6-7 (3), 8-6 today at the Australian Open.

Roddick has been on a hot streak since leading the U.S. team to the Davis Cup title, then winning the exhibition warmup at Kooyong last week. But the 29th-ranked Kohlschreiber played one of the best matches of his career as he reached the fourth round of a Grand Slam for only the second time.

The German next faces Jarrko Nieminen, seeded 14th, who ousted Roddick's good friend Mardy Fish in four sets.
