Watch out if anti-Campton slate wins

If the anti-Campton Hills contingent is successful in dissolving the village, you can kiss your peaceful, star-filled nights goodbye. If their efforts succeed, local control is lost and in a matter of a few short years, one will not recognize our now peaceful, semi-rural area.

Rest assured those that will benefit the most, the large regional and national builders, are waiting like hungry wolves to pounce on the spoils of a dissolved village. Within an unincorporated environment, zoning control would revert back to the county board and or adjacent municipality.

We all saw how effective the county was in preventing Elgin from annexing and approving the high-density Stony Creek development. I for one do not want my future living environment governed by a county board member from Elgin or Aurora, or the Elgin planning commission, Lily Lake, Elburn, or any local or regional builder for that matter.

Bottom line, this is not about taxes. There are no new taxes and talk of such is simply a scare tactic designed to increase the ranks of the opposition. By incorporating, we benefit by increased funding through reallocation of taxes already collected and new census monies. It is absolutely and unequivocally about zoning, controlled growth and impact fees, all of which negatively impact builders and those that profit with them.

I am not against growth, and neither are Patsy Smith and our trustees. These are dedicated, hard-working individuals that, like the majority who voted for the formation of our village, have a vision for the future. A future where we have a direct voice and a vote on matters that impact us. A future that is not congested, that isn't overbuilt, that preserves our quiet star-filled skies.

Take time to get the facts… follow the money. Take time to talk to your neighbors, make sure you vote. We must work hard to protect the Village of Campton Hills. Don't let the special interests at hand take this away from us.
