Lauzen tax plan not good for all
Chris Lauzen's FairTax position is scary when you look into the details.
As a young person, I can't afford to pay up to a 30 percent tax on my groceries or my clothes. I'm just getting started and can't just give money to the government every time I need something.
Like everyone else my age, I'd like to buy my first new car soon and I would like to eventually stop renting and buy a new home. Can you imagine what the 30 percent tax on those purchases would be? It will take forever to save that much extra money.
I know Lauzen says that in exchange for this incredibly high sales tax some other taxes will go away. But can we really trust the government to get rid of some other taxes? I just don't think it will happen. I think Jim Oberweis' Taxpayer Choice position makes the most sense for me.
It reduces the number of tax brackets, which may seem like nothing, but it also reduces the tax rates for the middle-class workers like me.
This kind of plan would help more people than raising my sales taxes to 30 percent.
