Help plan Fiesta Salsa's 10th year

The Fiesta Salsa Committee is asking members of the community to participate in the planning of the 10th anniversary of Fiesta Salsa.

The first meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the south conference room of the Elgin City Hall, 150 Dexter Court.

Fiesta Salsa is an annual event, sponsored by the Hispanic Heritage Coalition. For information, call Maria Alvarez, chairwoman, at (847) 695-2196.

Church offers 'Our Grief Journey'

Starting this week, St. John Lutheran Church in Elgin will host a five-week program, "Our Grief Journey," from 7 to 9 p.m. Mondays, meeting at the church annex, 101 N. Spring St. Enter through the Division Street door.

The class will help those who have experienced the death of a loved one. It is a place where one can express feelings of loss in a safe atmosphere, get help working through the grieving process and receive information for coping. It will be sponsored by St. John's Evangelism Board and the board of parish education and be led by parish staff from Provena St. Joseph Hospital.

Candidates invited to Dundee forum

On Wednesday, Republican candidates for the U.S. House, Illinois House, Kane County Board President and the Judicial 16th Circuit, Second Subcircuit-Elgin will speak from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at the East Dundee village hall annex, 120 Barrington Ave.

The public is invited to attend and ask questions and comment.

The event is hosted by the Dundee Township Republican Central Committee, and moderated by the committee chairman Margaret Scalfaro.

Invitees include: judicial candidates David Akemann and Patricia Golden; U.S. 14th Congressional District candidates Jim Oberweis and Chris Lauzen; Illinois House District 49 candidates Jim Krenz and Timothy Schmitz; and Kane County Board president candidates Jim MacRunnels and Karen McConnaughay.
